Part-time Director of Missions

Rowan Southern Baptist Association

Job Title: Director of Missions (DOM)

Function: To lead this association of churches to fulfill their missions.

Education and Job Requirements:

            Graduate of a bible college and/or seminary training

            Ordained by a Baptist Church

            Pastoral experience of at least 3 years;

            Be a member of good standing with a Southern Baptist Church

 Roles:

The Director of Missions has three roles in leading the association to fulfill its mission:

A.     Missions strategist;

B.      Resource for the association’s pastors and churches;

C.      Administrator of the association.

 Functions:

A.    Minister to the churches and church leaders.

 1.      Connect with and encourage local pastors to understand the current state of and needs of their church and partner with them in fulfilling their local church vision, as aligned with the Great Commission.

 2.      Connect with and encourage local pastors to develop and expand a church-supported investment in local, national, and global missions to fulfill the Great Commission.

 B.      Minister to pastors and church leaders.

 1.      Based on local pastor feedback, provide a regular yearly training session for association churches to meet the biggest need in carrying out the Great Commission.

 2.      In response to local pastor meetings, plan and offer church-specific small group training.

 3.      Provide support and counsel to the pastors.

 4.      Organize the associational pastors conference.

 5.      Develop pastoral support systems.

 6.      Provide orientation to new pastors in the association.

 7.      Support Pastor or Staff Search Committees, as needed, by providing training and resources.

 C.     Organize churches in the association to work together for missions.

 D.    Work with the associational leadership to develop missions goals and organize leaders of the association.

 E.     Provide administrative leadership.

  1.      Communicate the ministry of the association at the annual meeting.

 2.      Act as ex-officio, non-voting, member of all associational councils or committees.

 Accountability:

The Director of Missions is accountable to the Board of Directors, and then, if needed, to the full association.

 Expectations:

 A.    The DOM, when available, should do supply preaching at an associational church. An honorarium paid by the church is acceptable but not required.

 B.     The DOM should meet weekly with the Administrative Assistant to ensure they have the information they need to perform their job responsibilities.

 C.     The DOM may attend denominational conventions or conferences at his election, as funds are available, serving as the representative of the denomination to the churches and pastors.

 D.    The DOM will be expected to maintain membership in the North Carolina Associational Missionary Conference.

 E.     The DOM at least twice each year, will plan and participate in a countywide or local mission activity involving multiple member churches.

 F.      The DOM will develop leadership training for missions efforts. This may be done by helping get churches involved in NC Missions training through the state convention.
